NEWMAP Projects: Okpanam Residents Hail Oborevwori, Pledge Cooperation

Stakeholders in Okpanam Community, including Landlords’ Associations of Amachai/Ogbe-zoma and Vanguard Area Erosion Sites have appreciated the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for his gracious approval to the commencement of engineering designs and sudsequent civil works in the community.
The stakeholders gave the commendation when the management of Delta State Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (Delta NEWMAP), held a separate stakeholders’ engagement meeting with the indigenes and residents living along the corridors of the two erosion sites to kick-start the formation of Community Association (CA) and Site Committee (SC) executives, being prerequisite for supervision and monitoring exercise of the projects, in Okpanam, during the weekend.

The traditional ruler gave the commendation when he received, in audience, the management team of the Delta State Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project – EIB (Delta State NEWMAP), led by the Project Coordinator, Mr. Benedict Nwaokocha, who was in his Palace to brief the Ugoani the preparedness of the agency towards the commencement of the engineering design works and other environmental studies in Amachai/Ogbeozoma and Mable Hill Erosion Sites, preparatory to civil engineering works in the community.

Delta Govt Charges MDAs On Quality Services For MORE Agenda Growth

Delta State Government has charged the state Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to do more than their projects’ baseline to project the MORE agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori administration in the state.
The Senior Policy Adviser, (SPA) to the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Funkekeme Solomon gave the charge at an interactive section and presentation of copies of Servicom document to the State Project Coordinator of Delta State NEWMAP/EIB, Mr. Benedict Nwaokocha, on Tuesday in Asaba.

Delta Govt Tasks Exploration Firms on EIA Implementation Agreement to Host Communities

Delta State Government has warned exploration companies operating in the state to stop exploitative ‘divide-and-rule system of operation capable of creating chaos and confusion among stakeholders in their host communities.
The Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Tommy Ejiro Jamani handed down the warning during the presentation of the independent investigation reports carried out by the ministry’s stakeholders to ascertain the cause of the water (stream) pollution as reported in a petition from Ukwu-Nzu community a month ago.

Provision of Drip Irrigation facility at Obomkpa and Ukwu-Nzu farms

This project, facilitated by Delta NEWMAP and funded through SCCF commenced in March 2020 in two of our gully sites, Obomkpa and Ukwu-Nzu. This demonstration farm project aimed to build and strengthen the capacities of small-holder farmers who are already caught in the vicious cycle of poverty, food insecurity and natural resources degradation trap, to adapt to climate change, and thus decrease their vulnerability to the negative effects of the latter.
