This project, facilitated by Delta NEWMAP and funded through SCCF commenced in March 2020 in two of our gully sites, Obomkpa and Ukwu-Nzu. This demonstration farm project aimed to build and strengthen the capacities of small-holder farmers who are already caught in the vicious cycle of poverty, food insecurity and natural resources degradation trap, to adapt to climate change, and thus decrease their vulnerability to the negative effects of the latter.

Domestic waste aside from decomposing and letting off unfriendly gases also portends very serious epidemic. Health matters must be an issue of concern towards a better waste disposal system. Waste not properly disposed as seen from our intervention sites are precursors for uncontrolled runoffs and overwhelmed drains.

Delta NEWMAP undertook to make available a solar powered borehole system in the community. It is a great feat and a first of its kind as all other borehole systems around were either abandoned or not good enough for drinking. Members of the community participated actively in the process of making water available and are indeed overwhelmed by the success of the project.

The Midoma/Iwerebor flood plain and gully erosion watershed site is located at Boji-Boji Owa, Ika North East LGA, Delta State with coordinates of Latitude N 6° 14′ 26.4″ and Longitude E 6° 11′ 34.9″ with estimated length and depth of 2800m and 15m respectively. The site which is located in a densely-populated area is categorized as catastrophic.

The Ogbe-Okwe Erosion Site is located at Ukwu-Nzu, Aniocha North LGA, Delta State with coordinates of Latitude N 6° 23′ 106″ & Longitude E 6° 28′ 52.7″ with estimated length and depth of 600m and 11m respectively. The site which is located in a highly populated area is categorized as severe. Altogether, 113 respondents or Household Heads.

The Obomkpa flood plain and gully erosion watershed site is located in Aniocha North LGA, Delta State with coordinates of Latitude N 6° 23′ 6.6″ and Longitude E 6° 28′ 58″ with estimated length and depth of 2500m and 6m respectively.

Revving up the digital economy in rural communities was the focus of the Delta State Government and World Bank through the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP).
