We ‘ll Mobilize Support For Delta NEWMAP Projects – NPC

The National Project Coordinator of the Nigeria Climate Change Adaptation Erosion and Watershed Project (NEWMAP-EIB), Mr. Anda Ayuba Yalaks, has promised to mobilize national support to promptly execute all NEWMAP projects in Delta State.

Mr. Yalaks, made the promise when he led the national project team to pay a courtesy visit on the Secretary to the Government of Delta State, Dr. Kingsley Emu who received the team on behalf of the Delta State Government. Also present at the meeting were the State Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Ejiro Tommy Jamani, the commissioner for transport, Mr Onoriode Agofure, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Dr. (Mrs.) Minnie Oseji, the State Project Coordinator, Mr. Benjamin Nwaokocha and other top government functionaries.

The NPC stated that the supportive role has became necessary, having witnessed the highly demonstrated political will Delta State has put up in projects designs and implementations. He commended the government of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, for facilitating world class projects of NEWMAP-EIB to the state, assuring that the Project was at the verge of implementation.

Welcoming the commendation, the SSG, Dr. Emu recalled some laudable projects executed by NEWMAP in the state such as the Owanta erosion and storm water management project in Ika North East and Obomkpa and Ukwu-Nzu Gully Erosion Sites in Aniocha North Local Government Area, which he said, followed due process of project specifications. While commending NEWMAP for excellent jobs done in the state, Dr. Emu called for the replications of such world class standard in other ongoing projects in the state. He assured NEWMAP that the state government will continue to give its support in ensuring safer environment and resilience to the impact of climate change.

The State Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Ejiro Tommy Jamani, recalled the promises of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to the people of Okpanam community during his electioneering campaigns, which he said, is beginning to yield positive result in the community following the approval of the Amachai/Ogbozoma and Vanguard Area Erosion Sites for intervention. He affirms the state government’s resolve to extend the NEWMAP project to other ravaging erosion communities in order to secure and sustain the environment in the state.
